Our Story

Who We Are

Founded in Newcastle upon Tyne by Anjam Mahmood — a movement built on the belief that every story deserves to be told, and every person deserves the chance to thrive.

Why we exist

Our Mission

We came together to celebrate Asian success stories, archive the journeys of our community, and create a platform where cultures genuinely connect. Our core principle is simple: mentor, empower, and elevate. We bridge the wisdom of past generations with the ambitions of the present — and we open those doors for everyone, not just Asians.

Our foundation

Mission, Vision & Values

Our Mission

To mentor, empower and elevate the next generation — connecting the experience of those who have walked the path with those who are just beginning. We celebrate success stories, archive journeys, and create real opportunities for all communities.

Our Vision

A North where every young person — regardless of their background, ethnicity, or postcode — has access to the guidance, networks, and resources they need to lead. Where communities don’t just coexist, but truly understand each other.

Our Values

Community unity · Celebrating diversity · Bridging culture gaps · Reducing conflict through understanding · Archiving journeys · Open doors for all ages, all backgrounds, all cultures.

What we do

Our Four Pillars

Mentor, Empower, Elevate

Our core principle. Connecting experienced professionals with young people ready to grow — and helping the present generation learn from the wisdom of the past.

All Backgrounds Welcome

Asians of the North is not just for Asians. We use our platform to spread awareness, make our culture understood, and celebrate diversity. Every culture, every background, every age belongs here.

Bridging the Gap

Reducing cultural conflict through understanding, shared experiences, and finding common ground. Building genuine bridges between communities across Newcastle and the North.

Archiving Journeys

Every journey matters. We document and share the stories of our community so the next generation can see themselves in those who came before.

I started Asians of the North because I saw a gap. I saw incredible people in our community — entrepreneurs, doctors, academics, creatives — whose stories were never being told and whose wisdom wasn’t reaching the young people who needed it most. I also saw communities living alongside each other but not truly with each other. This is my answer to both. Asians of the North isn’t just a platform for Asians — it’s a platform built by our community, for every community. Come as you are.
